Our Website Tools

Every tool featured on this page is one I’d fully recommend, and use myself. Having this list years ago would have saved a lot of hours of headaches trying out and using the wrong stuff.

I’ve also recommended a few books at the bottom of the page; every book on this page is also one I’d recommend reading; they’ve all contributed to how this business is run, in one way or another and will be worth your time.

Some of the links in the list below are affiliate links. That means if you click on the link and purchase the item, we will earn a commission – at no extra cost to you! We recommend them because we’re confident that you will get value from them, not for the small commision we will make if you purchase :). There are more items we could add to this page,but I’ve kept it as it is, since I want to present only the very best.

Samsung S8

This is my phone and we use it for action shots/video.

Canon Rebel T3

This camera was bought in 2010 and is still going strong. We often get comments on the pictures on our sites and people inquiring what our setup is, what equipment we have, etc.

Truth is, natural light (not direct sunlight) and Auto setting go a long way 😉 That’s the extent of our equipment for now! We use this for taking end of project shots and mid project shots, while the Samsung S8 above is for the action shots/video.

The Resources running this site:

WPX Hosting

We love WPX Hosting; we’ve tried GoDaddy and Bluehost back in the day, and horrible experiences. Moving to WPX hosting was one of the best decisions ever.

With instant live chat support that knows what they are talking about and how to help, premium hosting, and a free CDN included, all at a great rate and most importantly reliability, having a site is a breeze when you have WPX Hosting.

Elementor Pro

Elementor enables you to very quickly and easily build a beautiful website in a visual manner (no code required). You just drag and drop elements and change the text.

WordPress makes building and operating a website really simple. After a bit of initial setup, adding new blog posts is about as easy as creating a Word Document. Most hosts have a one-click install for WordPress – WordPress powers a huge percentage of websites.

This is a WordPress plugin that automatically shrinks and optimizes photos without losing quality – saves a lot of work, and keeps this site running nice and fast.

This is where we buy our domains. We own about 15 domains, have 6 live sites, and some are close versions of the live sites so we bought them up and redirected them. Namecheap has great pricing and a nice clean dashboard and has really been working perfectly ever since we moved all our domains over there and bought others.

Free (or ridiculously cheap paid upgrades) screen recorder and video editor. The course was shot and partially edited using this.

Other Resources:

Fiverr is a Freelance Marketplace where you can get all sorts of works done. I’ve worked with freelancers here for logo creation, other graphic work, social media assistants, video creation and editing, and more.

For password management and sharing with staff. You can share passwords with staff without revealing them and also generate nice strong passwords without having to try to remember them!

Books I recommend and enjoy

These books have all contributed to how this business is run, in one way or another and will be worth your time. They aren’t so much about DIY or projects or that sort of thing, but mostly entrepreneurial/business/online business related.

If you’re thinking of turning a hobby into a real business like this one, these books laid a really solid foundation for me and I hope they do for you too!

Entreleadership by Dave Ramsey

Virtual Freedom by Chris Ducker

The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

Audible.com Subscription

Any of the books above are available on Audible.com if you’re not a reader. In the last couple of years, if I get through a book, it is usually while driving and hearing the audio version. We love audiobooks for long drives with the family too 🙂
